WESTERN AUSTRALIA (licensed)

West Australian Laser Use falls under the legislation of the WA Radiological Council.

QUEENSLAND (licensed)

NSW – NEW SOUTH WALES (non-licensed)

NSW Laser use falls under the legislation of the Environmental Protection Agency. 

There are no existing legislations or licenses required for non-ionizing lasers (Tattoo Removal Lasers.  “The EPA does not regulate the possession or use of lasers. The EPA has prepared this information sheet to assist the general public in finding information on the following lasers: hand held laser pointers; lasers used in industry, lasers used in the entertainment industry, and lasers used for cosmetic purposes”.

VICTORIA (non-licensed)

WHAT DO I HAVE TO STUDY IN A NON LICENCED STATE?

 

NON LICENCED STATES – WHAT IS MANDATORY?
IT IS MANDATORY THAT YOU HAVE PROOF OF LASER TATTOO REMOVAL CERTIFICATION, INFECTION CONTROL, INCREASED MEDICAL STUDY & LASER SAFETY OFFICER CERTIFICATION
FOR YOUR PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY


Professional Indemnity Insurance Standards will require that you can prove to them that you have had Laser Tattoo Removal Training, have Infection Control Studies, a Laser Safety Officer Certificate and a solid portfolio of additional studies in Laser Tattoo Removal.

You are also required to present to them, all the forms that you are going to use before up taking any removals on any persons.  Medilase will supply all of these along with your course choice.

The studies completed with Medilase include Nursing CPD points, medical CPD points, CPD points, along with certain endorsements from the Australian College of Nursing, with some of the studied modules.

Non licensed states – All relevant protocols must comply with the State Standards and Occupational Health and Safety Law.

(Module 2) Infections, Scarring and Complications in Tropical Climates.

  • Infection, Contamination, Causes of Infections, Predisposing Factors, Symptoms, Mycobacterium marinum, Mycobacterium abscessus, Mycobacterium fortuitum, Tattoo Removal frosting, blisters, Vancouver Scar Scale assessment, how to treat blisters, Risks post tattoo removal.

 
(Module 3) Consultancy and Programs in Assessment of Tattoos

  • Education in Tattoo Assessment, Procedural Choices, scarring assessment, Explaining the Kirby Desai scale of number of treatments, and Pricing up the removal sessions. This is an assessment project preparing you for your clinical procedures and for “smart business” in your clinic.
     

(Module 4) Clinical Test patch & Endpoints

  • The Test Patch, Performing the Test patch, the clinical endpoint, Post treatment protocols, types of lasers and relativity to tattoo colours, recording data.

 
(Module 5) Nursing CPD Certificates of Completion

(Module 6 and 7) RHQ Radiation Health Queensland Mandatory Modules

Your one day in clinic professional development program.

Upon completion of your online course you may opt to choose a One-day in-clinic professional session, fly-in fly-out for interstate travel.

In-clinic Experience:

  • Ink types – fragmentation and resistance
  • Safe practices with infection control
  • Safe use and Procedures of a Laser
